DR PAUL ALEXANDER STEWART

Principle Investigator

Dr Paul Stewart is an artist and researcher based In Newcastle. He is a Principal Lecturer in Fine Art at Teesside University. Completed a PhD in Art and Philosophy (2018) Teesside University and a MA in Art and Politics from Goldsmiths College and a BA (Hons) Degree in Fine Art from Lincoln University (2011). He co-founded the Middlesbrough Art Weekender in 2017 and has set up collectives including the Alternative Art College (2011-2014) and currently co-running Bad Spirits with Dawn Bothwell. Core elements in his practice and research include the effects of neoliberalism on Higher Education, democracy and art practice and Critical
Pedagogy as a methodology in art making. Alongside research into digital communities in art making and the effects of digital making on curation and collection processes. Latest book with Routledge: Art, Critical Pedagogy and Capitalism (December 2020). He has a new book on radical Aesthetics and the Educational Turn planned for 2024 release and currently PI for a participatory research project entitled Assembly of Actions.

DR CHRISTO WALLERS

Co-Investigator

Dr Christo Wallers is a founding member of Star and Shadow Cinema, in Newcastle upon Tyne, Filmmaker and researcher. Completed his PhD with Reading University, regarding the DIY Cinema Culture that has developed since the late 1990's. He runs a film retreat called Losing the Plot, in Northumberland.

EGYPT CLARKE

Research Assistant

Egypt Clarke is an artist based in Middlesbrough, and working with the research team focusing on research dissemination, frameworks and activity.

MATTY EMERY

Research Assistant

Matty Emery is an artist based in Middlebrough and studio holder at Platform Art,working with the research team towards research frameworks and facilitation of workshops.
